This is my Head Start Sucess Story:
My son is now 12 years old. He was in the Head Start program in Butler, PA for two years. In the beginning of first grade his Standard Acheivement score from Kindergarten were all in the 93-97%. At the sugestion of his first grade teacher, kindergarten teacher and the priciple he was tested for the gifted program. He was placed in the gifted program in the winter of first grade.
He will be staring 7th grade this August 2005. He is entered in Honors & Gifted classes. He received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, gpa of 3.5 in 4th, 5th & 6th grade & an acheivemnet score in 6th grade in the 95%. I believe that because he was in Head Start and had caring teachers this lead to his success in school.
My daughter is 5 years old, going to Kindergarten in August 2005. The school year 2003/2004 she was in Home Based Head Start. This year 2004/2005 she is in Day Care/Head Start.
She is following in her brothers foot steps. I see a number of simularities at her age now and her brother when he was 5 yrs. My daughter's social skills have improved, she has come to trust other adults, coping with her emtions.
Sincerely,
Donna Ridenour
