When I was 13 - 14, I dated a girl named Casey. Her parents and my parents were friends, and we met through her sister, who had been a lifeguard at the pool.
I recently went home and found this love letter I sent to her when she was at camp. This was the draft (I always re-copied love letters in my finest handwriting before sending).
It's a little hard-to-read, so I retyped the letter at the bottom. The more things change, I guess :)

Dear Casey, How are you? I'm really sorry about camp. You shouldn't have had to go. It would be a lot better if you were here instead. You know what I want to do with you sometime? Go on a Wolverine's night out in one of our neighborhoods when it's snowing. Either that or I'd like to go out and sit in the snow with you and talk about stuff. That would be fun. You know when you're out at night during the winter and you can hear the snow falling. Also when you can see the stars. I really want you to be there with me when I do that. You're a very very special person, Casey. I know you're going to have a really good life. I really wish there was something I could do for you better than just giving you presents. Those really don't mean a lot, or at least not as much as I'd like them to. You know how in movies the guy always does something really nice for the girl? That's what I want to do for you. Not even for some special occasion. Like something totally out of the blue that really makes you happy. That would be good. I love you. I really think I do. With other girlfriends it hasn't been that way, but you're so special. You know what? It's really cool that we'll pretty much be going to the same school next year. You know what would be really cool? If our schools got closed on a snow day and you could come over and spend the night and we could just do a lot of fun stuff. The spend the night part isn't for reasons you may have been thinking. I want to be with you one night and stay up all night and find out about you. You'd be real fun to talk to about that. You know what else is good? I like your family. That's cool that our parents are friends. Do your parents like me? Let's hope so. When we went to see Terminator 2, guess who was there? The Matt that has a crush on you and his mom is best friends with your mom. I roughed him up a little. Anyway, have fun with the rest of your camp. I'll miss you. Love, Michael P.S. John sent a letter to Lindsay but forgot to put her name on it, so it'll probably go to the counselor. |
