If you’ve ever felt math-o-phobic – or even been just
blind-sided by numbers – you’ll appreciate what many of our staff people feel
when faced with the prospect of introducing three-year-olds to math. Some –
literally – break out in a sweat. The problem, we find, is math sometimes get
unplugged from the real world – and, unfortunately, from us.

That’s why, when these two brothers found a tape measure
just like Dad’s that they could use themselves, they immediately went to work,
without thought of numbers or subtracting or square roots and other arcane
concepts. Imagine their satisfaction when – with little more than the help of
an extra pair of teacher’s hands to hold stuff in place – the boys discovered
they were the same height. Or length …whatever. Imagine our delight that they
learned to do it themselves – and that
they coaxed their teacher onto the floor herself.
